Detailed trip description:
Day 1: Arrival in Karlsruhe
The “green oasis” city. According to the famous quote, Karlsruhe is a “green oasis” city. With over 800 hectares of public parks, the city abounds with space for outdoor leisure activities. Due to its location along the Upper Rhine, Karlsruhe, nestled in a charmingly scenic corner of Germany, is considered one of the sunniest cities in the country. Its unique cityscape, which has earned it the name “fan-shaped city”, is owed to founder Margrave Charles William who had the palace erected at the center of the city with all roads emanating from it. In addition to the tourist attractions, you will also enjoy a one-of-a-kind museum experience at the Center for Art and Media, a gourmet meal in a top-rate restaurant, and overnight accommodation.
Day 2: Baden-Baden
Pure elegance. Baden-Baden has been considered the city of elegance and relaxation for more than two thousand years. The city is a world-famous health resort destination and is well-known for its spas, therapeutic baths and art scene. The Festspielhaus Baden-Baden (Festival Theater) is the second largest opera and concert venue in Europe. You will tour the city, take a few relaxing breaks in elegant cafes, and visit the Frieder Burda Museum – a fascinating architectural structure housing a superior collection of artwork. We would be happy to make a reservation for you, if you would like to attend a performance at the Festspielhaus in the evening. You will also enjoy dinner at a typical local restaurant. Overnight accommodations are included.
Day 3: Strasbourg
Exciting bus trip to Strasbourg. Strasbourg is often called the intersection of Europe, and for good reason: The magnificent city of Alsace is deeply rooted within both German and French culture. As the seat of numerous European institutions, the city plays a central role in modern-day Europe. During a city tour, you will get the chance to discover the narrow lanes, beautiful squares and stunning buildings. A trip to the Strasbourg Cathedral, a wonderful example of powerful, gothic architecture, as well as the sights and sounds of the romantic Tanner’s District will leave you inspired. On a boat tour on the Ill, you will discover a new part of the city and the European Parliament. The day ends with an exquisite dinner.
Day 4: Freiburg
Start your morning off with a ride through the romantic cities of Riquewih and Ribeauville, all the way to Freiburg im Breisgau. Naturally, your trip includes a wine cellar visit including degustation. Your next stop in the picturesque university city of Freiburg am Breisgau introduces you to the highlights of exquisite architecture in the historic city center: the world-renowned Freiburg Minster cathedral and the medieval gutter system that runs throughout. Freiburg bubbles over with energy which comes mostly from its large student population. Its university, founded in 1457, makes Freiburg one of Germany’s most important university cities. A cultural surprise awaits you before you sit down for a sophisticated evening meal, followed by wonderful overnight accommodations.
Day 5: Basel
A visit to the Swiss city of Basel is on the agenda for Day 5. The city, located directly on the Rhine River, captivates with its international flair and impressive, well-maintained historic city center. Basel is also considered a Mecca for architects with its world-renowned museum buildings. You will discover the most beautiful sights and hidden nooks during a tour of the city. For an entirely different look at this fascinating city, we also offer you a boat tour on the Rhine River. You will have enough time to relax in a cafe, do some shopping, or indulge in some of the delicacies of Basel (a pastry, perhaps?). A trip to the Basel Art Museum will give you a glimpse at some world-famous paintings and artwork. In the evening, experience yet another culinary highlight at a first-class restaurant.
