Detailed Trip Description:
Day 1: Arrival in Niederbronn
Directly behind the German Wine Gate in the Palatinatian city of Schweigen awaits the Alsacian city of Weißenburg. After a bit of sightseeing, you will continue to Cléebourg for a wine tasting and then travel through the Natural Park in the Upper Vosges Mountains toward Niederbronn-les-Bains. You will stay in the 4-star Mercure Hotel right near the casino. You will have plenty of time to explore on your own or try your luck on the casino floor. Round out your evening with dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2: Northern Alsace Tour & the Royal Palace
Today’s trip takes you first to the Lalique-Museum in Wingen-sur-Moder for a look at some of the world’s finest crystal. Around noon, get ready for a brief stroll at the La Petite Pierre, a former fort structure within the Natural Park in the Upper Vosges Mountains. You will continue through Graufthal and its impressive cave dwellings, which were still occupied until 1958. Following a noontime walk around the Rose Garden of Saverne and a quick stop in Bouxwiller, featuring a church with a beautiful Silverman organ, you will head back to Niederbronn. On the docket for the evening is dinner and a once-in-a-lifetime show at the famous Royal Palace Cabaret. Transfer back to the hotel via local bus after the show.
Day 3: Natural Resources of Alsace
Crude oil deposits in Alsace? Absolutely! In fact, Europe’s largest oil production facilities were based in Merckwiller-Pechelbronn with 8 drill holes and 430 kilometers of oil shafts. After a visit to the Oil Museum, your trip comes to an end in Alsace in the pottery region of Soufflenheim. If you’d like, you can also enjoy lunch at the restaurant Au Boeuf where fresh chicken vol au vent will be served before your departure home.
