Detailed Trip Description:
Day 1: The History of Strasbourg revisited
Your discovery of Strasbourg begins at Krutenau, the medieval port district just south of the old Customs House. Follow the winding city streets for a glass of Alsatian Crémants to Cour de Corbeau inside of the old postal station – the former home of Frederick the Great and Kaiser Franz Joseph II, now the seat of a luxury hotel. The next stop is the Historical Museum inside the former slaughterhouses for a deeper look into Strasbourg’s history. Afterwards, enjoy a boat trip through time on the Ill through the historic city center followed by a stroll around the cathedral. A walk around the St. Nicholas Church, where Albert Schweitzer played the organ, to the old city hospice. Its cellar, which dates back to 1395, is presumed to have been a favorite workplace of Goethe, who used it to practice his hobby of anatomy. Today, however, it is widely known for its outstanding wines. Enjoy a wine tasting including a piece of Kouglof (Bundt cake) next to the legendary barrel from 1472, which today still holds 300 liters of the year’s wine. Hotel check-in and dinner to follow.
Day 2: Cathedral Discoveries
Join us for a trip to the cathedral with one of the best tour guides in Strasbourg, where you will learn why the 142 meter-high tower is covered in such a bright red capping, why the astronomical clock is always set a half hour late, and why there are four holy kings represented on the outer facade, though only three are visible. The adjacent Münster Museum contains fantastic collections of cathedral architecture and the works of artisan’s of the Middle Ages. After eating at the famous Maison Kammerzell, established in 1589, let us pique your interest and curiosity with our “Strasbourg Insolite“ tour. There’s time for some relaxation before a cozy tarte flambee dinner at a historic restaurant in the evening. You then return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Kamasutra of the Frogs
It’s not over yet…!
Are you curious about the Kamasutra of the frogs? Tomi Ungerer, the famous Strasbourg painter and graphic designer, has left his mark with over 8,000 drawings of the city. Explore the museum with competent tour guides, followed by your trip home.
