Detailed Trip Description:
Day 1: Trip to Basel, Zurich or Freiburg (Frankfurt for an additional fee)
Arrival in the magnificent region of the border triangle of Germany, Switzerland and France. To get you started, you are shown through the picturesque university town of Freiburg im Breisgau. Enjoy the unique mixture of first-rate architecture in the historic city center, featuring the world-famous cathedral and the vivaciousness of student life. The day comes to a close with an overnight stay.
Day 2: Basel
A visit to the Swiss city of Basel is on the agenda for Day 2. The city, located directly on the Rhine River, captivates with its international flair and impressive, well-maintained historic city center. Basel is also considered a Mecca for architects with its world-renowned museum buildings. You will discover the most beautiful sights and hidden nooks during a tour of the city. For an entirely different look at this fascinating city, we also offer you a boat tour on the Rhine River. You will have enough time to relax in a cafe, do some shopping, or indulge in some of the delicacies of Basel. Dinner will be served in a typical local restaurant. How would you like to end the evening in a classy jazz cellar bar?
Day 3: Black Forest
This day is reserved for the Black Forest. The whole route offers breathtaking vistas in the Black Forest valleys, in the Rhine valleys and in the Alsace region, all the way to the Vosges Mountains. You will be treated to fabulous sights such as wild ravines and dark forests, and you will visit tourism highlights like Titisee Lake (including a small boat trip) or the baroque-style minster of St. Peter. Lovely valleys with typical Black Forest farms wind your way to the Benedictine monastery of St. Blasien featuring one of the largest dome-shaped churches in Europe. Of course, pure enjoyment of the world-famous Black Forest gateau is on the agenda as well. We will introduce you to the secrets of the cherry schnapps during a visit to a distillery. And, of course, you will learn more about the ingenious cuckoo clock. The day comes to an end with an overnight stay.
Day 4: Alsace
Today you discover the Alsace region, the epitome of French joie de vivre. A magical mix of French culture, cuisine, wine and countryside awaits you. The romantic towns of Riquewihr, Ribeauville, Eguisheim and Colmar are on the agenda. Naturally, a visit in a wine cellar for a degustation is included. Colmar, a city of beautiful half-timber houses, will also offer up a visit in “Little Venice” and the world-famous Unterlinden Museum (Isenheim altar, collection of modern art). The day comes to a close in a romantic restaurant to enjoy the region’s typical tarte flambée.
Day 5: Return Trip/Museums
Before you head back home, make sure to visit one of the most famous museums in the Basel area. Interested in design? The Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein is just the place to go. This museum offers the most extensive collection of modern furniture design. In to classic cars? The Autombile Museum in Mulhouse has something for you. Fans of paintings will feel right at home in the world-famous Fondation Beyeler in Riehen.
