Detailed Trip Description:
Day 1: Arrival in Mulhouse
After your arrival in Mulhouse, we will show you the city during a sightseeing tour. In the evening, you can enjoy dinner or relax in the pool, sauna or steam bath of your 4-star hotel.
Day 2: Colmar and the Wine Route
Get off to an early start with a visit to Colmar and the Pfisterhaus as well as the historic “Little Venice” city district. We can organize a relaxing canoe ride on the Lauch River, if desired. At lunchtime, regroup for all-you-can-eat tarte flambée at the Chez les Copains. In the afternoon, explore the Wine Route of the southern Alsace region and visit the quaint towns of Eguisheim and Turckheim where you can taste fruity Alsacian white wines and a delicious Bundt cake in a traditional wine cellar. The day ends with dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Over the Grand Ballon Peak to Münstertal
Today you will get to see two significant romantic churches: in Murbach, the Minster of the once powerful Benedictine abbey of the Upper Rhine; in Lautenbach, the Collegiate Church, famous for it well-maintained “Paradise” triple-nave porch. Atop the Grand Ballon, the highest peak in the Vosges Mountain range at 1,423 meters, you have a breathtaking view of the Alps. We continue through the Ravine Pass (Col de la Schlucht) to the Lingen Memorial, the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Vosges. Afterwards, you can enjoy fine wines and cheeses at a Münster dairy farm in Lapoutroie. Round out your day with a trip back to the hotel, dinner and a good night’s sleep.
Day 4: From the Citadel to a Six-Cylinder
Start your day off with a trip to Belfort and it’s enormous lion monument, as well as the mighty Citadel which once served to protect the famous Belfort Gap (Burgundian Gate). In the afternoon, travel to the neighboring city of Montbéliard, which had been a part of Germany for 400 years. Take a stroll through the stunning Baroque city, visit the Peugot Museum and learn about state-of-the-art automobile production during a tour of the plant. Return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5: Museum City Mulhouse and Basel
After breakfast, experience the largest classic automobile museum in the world, featuring over 400 exhibits including the famous Bugatti Royal. In the afternoon, get to know the city with a visit to the Minster, the historic city center and the Art Museum which is home to the largest Holbein collection in the world. You will also have plenty of time to explore on your own before returning to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Return Home
Return home, with a possible stop in Strasbourg.
