The Upper Rhine Valley is a region with a real sense of tradition. Throughout the year there are many traditional activities and events taking place.
In spring during the carnival celebrations, witches and other fancy-dressed carnival revellers frolic in the streets at the region’s colourful carnival processions. The Morgestraich parade in Basel with its pipers and drummers is one such spectacle that should not be missed. In autumn it’s the turn of the numerous wine festivals which are ideal for a cosy get-together. Savour the regional wines together with a slice of local onion cake. During Advent the towns of the Upper Rhine Valley are also an enchanting sight with their festive lights. Stroll around the romantic Christmas markets and enjoy a warming glass of mulled wine.
At the numerous traditional events that take place in the Upper Rhine Valley the different regional costumes are regularly on display. The Black Forest Bollenhut hat is one such traditional symbol that now enjoys worldwide recognition.
