Circuit Tour D

Medieval Gems

Between Mount St. Odile and the heart of the Black Forest

Offenburg is start and end point of this circuit tour. We follow the Kinzig River to the medieval town center of Gengenbach. Although flat up until this point, the route now begins to rise and fall ever so slightly as bikers ride through the popular and beautiful Ortenau wine region. Once here, one should be sure to take time for a delightful wine tasting, and the Tobacco Museum in Mahlberg is also well worth a visit!

Upon reaching Kappel-Grafenhausen, bikers find themselves once again at the Rhine; from here, they can catch a ferry to the village of Rhinau, where the French side of the bike path leads farther to Benfeld and Kertzfeld.
The route goes through the forest to Stotzheim and connects with the EuroVelo 5 Bike Path, which passes through St. Pierre’s breathtaking vineyards on the way to Barr, the “Winegrowing Capital”, before reaching the majestic town of Obernai. Once in the birthplace of Saint Odile, the patron saint of Alsace, bikers can peddle onward through the beautifully fortified wine village of Rosheim in direction to Molsheim.
The way back to Offenburg continues as described in the previous “Romanesque Architecture and Wine” tour, and - after crossing the “Pierre Pflimlin” Bridge - turn in the direction of Marlen.
This circuit tour continues to Neuried and Offenburg
