A shining example of medieval military architecture, the Hohlandsbourg, which was built at the behest of the Habsburgs in 1279, affords a spectacular 360 degree panoramic view.
The towering walls made from granite sourced locally encircle a large courtyard dominated by the upper castle situated to the north. The castle was recently renovated and can be visited independently or as part of a tour led by a costumed guide. What’s more, a wide range of exhibitions and activities, including a historical reconstruction, a medieval banquet, and even workshops and treasure hunts for the youngest visitors, bring the medieval world to life.
