Visa

Conditions for entry vary depending on your destination within the Upper Rhine Valley.

While all visitors are required to show a valid passport without exception, EU citizens are exempt from further visa requirements while travelling in the area. On the contrary, almost all non-EU citizens visiting Germany must first apply for a visa before entering the country with a few exceptions; US citizens, for example, are exempt from visa requirements as long as their stay lasts no longer than 90 days. The same rule also applies to Americans travelling to France or Switzerland. Further information and a list of countries subject to visa requirements are available through the relevant tourism offices.
